Thanks to our generous community that gave $8,000 during our end of the year fundraiser. That is enough to provide 5,333 meals to Haitians experiencing food insecurity. Some of the money will be spent doing hot food outreaches in southern Haiti. Our Haitian partners do this once a month and typically serve 230 meals per outreach. They give primarily to children living on the street, but anyone is welcome to a hot meal as long as they last.
The other monies will be spent doing a meal kit outreach. Meal kits include spaghetti, rice, beans and oil, and there is enough food in each kit for 10 meals. These are passed out in communities in northern Haiti, primarily to families, but again, anyone is welcome to a meal kit as long as they last. The Haitain staff typically give out 100 meal kits per outreach.
We distribute food all year long and the need in Haiti is immense. Half of the population is food insecure, meaning they do not know where their next meal will come from. It is one of the worst hunger crisis in the western hemisphere. You can give at chanje.org/give to help us continue these vital food outreach services.
