A Note From Chanje Founder and President

Regarding Disruption of US Foreign Aid to Haiti

Dear Chanje Movement Community,

As the humanitarian outreach of a faith-based organization, the Chanje Movement lacks a political agenda. However, it is imperative for all of us to understand the times and how current events are impacting the world and how you and I can respond.

As you may have heard, President Trump issued an executive order halting virtually all aid pending a review to ensure distributions are aligned with his “America First” foreign policy. On Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued an exemption for lifesaving humanitarian aid. This is according to an article published in The Miami Herald on January 29th. The article continues:

“The memo said that ‘implementers of existing life-saving humanitarian assistance programs should continue or resume work if they have stopped’ but also warned that ‘this resumption is temporary.’ Life-saving work is defined as medical services, medicine, food, shelter and other subsistence support.” *

Chanje Movement does not receive any government funding, so our organization is not directly impacted by the freeze on aid or the waiver. We believe it is the job of the church to care for widows, orphans and those in need in every country around the world. We also believe that every human has the responsibility to change themselves, change their community and change their world. In Haiti, we strive to equip and empower Haitians to help themselves.

Yet this dramatic change in foreign aid will significantly impact Haiti and those of us who care about the country should pay attention. Haiti’s government relies upon an immense amount of foreign assistance, most of it from the United States, and many other organizations working in the country depend on aid. Any change to US aid will have tremendous impact especially affecting Haiti’s security forces and medical care and HIV treatment programs.

Now more than ever, the people of God are needed to help the people of Haiti, especially the children of Haiti. Chanje Movement continues to provide food assistance, medical services and educational scholarships to children and families. These needs will increase in 2025. We are deeply grateful for the support that Chanje donors have already provided and invite our growing community to partner with us through prayer and financial giving so that we can increase our assistance to the people of Haiti.  Government can step back, and the church must step up.

In Christ,

Dave Brodsky and the Chanje Movement Team
